IABP Secretary General Visits Armenia
On 21-24 November 2007 IABP-Armenia hosted Fredrick R Hyde-Chambers OBE, IABP Secretary General, and Archil Bakuradze, IABP Company Secretary and Special Advisor to the Secretary General.
During the visit a number of meetings were conducted with high profile representatives of the Armenian legislative and executive power, business community, banking community as well as international organizations.
In particular, meetings were held with:
Mr. Nerces Yeritsyan, Minister of Trade and Economic Development of Armenia,
Mr. Tigran Sargsyan, Chairman of the Central Bank of Armenia and the Board of the Central Bank of Armenia,
Mr. Nicolay Arustamyan, Deputy Minister of Justice on behalf of the Minister of Justice,
Mr. Tigran Davtyan, Director of Armenian Development Agency,
Mr. Arsen Ghazaryan, Chairman of the Union of Entrepreneurs and Industrials of Armenia,
Ms. Consuleo Vidal, UN Resident Coordinator / UNDP Resident Representative, and
Mr. Marc Boyanich, Deputy Head of OSCE Mission in Yerevan.
Meetings at the National Assembly of Armenia included:
Standing Committee on European Integration,
Standing Committee on Economic Affairs, and
Mr. Volodya Badalyan, one of the few longest-serving MPs of the National Assembly of Armenia, serving as MP since the day of the establishment of the Armenian National Assembly.
During all the meetings IABP received warm welcome and the counterparts expressed their respective organizations feel an immediate and clear need of IABP for Armenia and expressed their unconditional willingness and desire for a long-term, content-based and goal-oriented cooperation aimed at making a real difference in the respective areas of their and IABP mandate.
A tangible framework was developed jointly with and based on proposals by counterparts that encompass concrete issues over which the IABP-Armenia and its partners will work over the next six months.
These issues will be formalized in the IABP-Armenia upcoming 6-month action plan to be developed by IABP based on consultations with counterparts and based on needs and issues expressed by counterparts during the meetings.
IABP-Armenia will work on these issues in close tie with respective agencies as formal contact points at senior management level were appointed by counterparts to work with IABP-Armenia on a day-to-day basis, and which will make up the Advisory Board of the IABP-Armenia.
By such IABP-Armenia is passing towards the second level of its activities in Armenia, i.e. institutionalization and capacity-development, after Edward MacMillan Scott, Vice-President of the European Parliament, on behalf of the President of European Parliament officially launched the IABP in Armenia 7 June 2006.
