Programme Outline

Objective: to share experience between the IABP members and to bring participants up to date with new developments nationally and internationally

Chairman: The Rt Hon Bruce George MP, President of IABP, President Emeritus of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly

IABP held its Members Conference – London in December 2006. It brought together the national Business and Parliament schemes in membership of the Association as well as representatives of the EU Commission and the European Parliament.

First session was dedicated to presentations by national schemes highlighting accomplishments, problems, trends and new initiatives. In the second session the working groups discussed the following questions (summary of outcomes is available upon request from the Secretariat):

  • Any changes of business attitudes to parliaments and vice versa?
  • what value-added business and Parliament schemes give?
  • Main risks and challenges?
  • How the impact of business and Parliament scheme is measured?
  • Development priorities for the National Schemes?
  • How best to implement the IABP Objective 3 concerning the interaction between member schemes and their participating business people and parliamentarians?

Conference participants welcomed with special presentation Seniora Lucila Gomez-Baeza, Founder of the Business and Parliament Scheme of Spain, Founding Member of the IABP. The Rt Hon Jonathan Hunt, New Zealand High Commissioner to the UK and the Vice President of the IABP, former President of the New Zealand Business and Parliament Trust, shared his personal experience of developing the New Zealand Business and Parliament Trust.

Concluding session was dedicated to the work of the IABP. IABP methodology and programme approaches have been presented and discussed by participants.
