Regulation of MPs’ Business Interests: IABP aims to inform parliaments about the economy and develop non-corrupt and transparent relations between legislators and business people. IABP Armenia with support of the OSCE Office in Yerevan is discussing the issue with Members of the National Assembly.
IABP aims to inform parliaments about the economy and develop non-corrupt and transparent relations between legislators and business people. The IABP has no policy views and does not represent any particular sector of the economy. It believes that integrity and transparency in Parliament’s dealing with business is a strong determinant of a country’s business climate and the trust economic operators have in public institutions, in this case specifically their Parliaments.
IABP Armenia with support of the OSCE Office in Yerevan is discussing the issue with Members of the National Assembly. The Rt Hon Bruce George MP, President of IABP and Fredrick Hyde-Chambers, Secretary General visit Yerevan on 15-17 February to discuss regulation of members outside interests.
In 2006 IABP launched its programme on regulation of Members outside interests. The practical guide for parliamentarians “Ten Steps Towards a Transparent Parliament” was produced and made available in:
- Georgian with support of BP Georgia
- Romanian with support of IRI in Moldova
- Armenian with support of OSCE Office in Yerevan

The implementation framework offered by the publication helps Parliaments to:
- Decide whether or not the issue exists and needs to be addressed;
- Choose to adopt a special Code of Conduct (regulation) or to base a system on generally applicable national laws;
- Decide on a strict or soft approach;
- Define the obligation to declare interests;
- Define the types of declarable interests;
- Persons whose interests should be declared;
- Form and timing of declaration;
- Registration of outside business interests;
- Access to registered information;
- Sanctions and Regulatory Bodies.
IABP conducted seminars in the Parliament of Georgia and Republic of Moldova as well as facilitated a meeting of the Speaker or the Georgian Parliament and the Head of Majority with the UK House of Commons Ethics Commissioner.
