The Launch of the Business and Economic Centre in the Parliament of Georgia.
The Business and Economic Centre (the BEC), funded by BP and administered by the International Association of Business and Parliament (IABP) has been established within the framework of the project “Strengthening Legislature for the transparent and Effective Economic Governance in Georgia”.
The main mission of the BEC is to provide neutral and objective information on subjects relating to the economy and business for the Members of the Georgian Parliament. All products and services implemented by the BEC create an additional opportunity for MPs to gain more information and knowledge in the fields covered by the BEC. The BEC is committed to an active partnership and cooperation with various national and international organizations, associations and companies. Such an extensive network provides opportunities for better and more efficient information support.
On the 13th of February 2007, the opening ceremony was held to launch the Business and Economic Centre in the Parliament of Georgia. The BEC was introduced to the Georgian Executive and Legislature, Diplomatic missions, International organizations, Non-government organizations, as well as Business and Private sector representatives.

Mr. Fredrick Hyde-Chambers, The IABP Secretary General gave a brief overview of all the services and products of IABP and the BEC in particular.

HE Donald MacLaren of MacLaren, UK Ambassador: ‘The BEC as the first of its kind in the region will serve as an example to other Parliaments and accelerate the process of democratisation.
